Garbage in - Garbage out.

Glenn Beck is but one of many entertainers posing as serious broadcast journalists.
Glenn Beck is but one of many entertainers posing as serious broadcast journalists.

Glenn Beck.

There have been several hubs as of late talking about Glenn Beck, the popular if controversial host of The Glenn Beck Show on FOX News. Some have spoken highly of him as a champion of populism, while others have told about his many flaws as a person who seems to be reporting news. I am mostly amongst the latter group, in that I believe that Glenn Beck often gets things horribly wrong, and that it seems to me that he is more interested in ratings and making a big splash than in getting the facts straight.

Let me start by defining what is a fact in my eyes. A fact is a truth. It is something that has happened that can be substantiated by either witnesses or some outcome. A fact is not an opinion and a fact must have credible evidence which backs it up.

With this in mind I have seen some incredible things done by Glenn Beck which, in my humble opinion, skirt the issue and substance of the difference between fact and fiction. What Glenn Beck seems to do on his TV show is raise some issue, expound upon it at length, building a case that is based upon solely circumstantial evidence which is seldom corroborated by independent and factual sources, and then give us, the viewer, his opinion as to why we should believe him, act upon this "news" and then get angry about it.

In a sense, Beck is a great and powerful storyteller, but is what he does news, in the sense of a traditional news program? I think not.

In short, Beck seems to me to be giving his opinion as if that alone makes it factual. I remember the case he wanted to make about alleged FEMA camps and how some Americans would be transferred there because they somehow didn't fit into Barack Obama's "agenda" or plans. He offered no verifiable proof, no credible evidence, and even though he did later that day say it turned out to be an untrue story, the damage was done.

In little or no time a large number of false reports that others had posted on blogs or websites, using Beck as a source, and interestingly none of which made reference to Beck's own disclaimer, turned out to be spreading fast and furious around the blogosphere.  Many of these were in turn picked up by various anti-Obama hosts and bloggers and proclaimed as being true.  In a word, these sources began feeding off each other and in a circular way formed what seemed to be an "independent" basis for the story.  The lie that was the death camp story made it into the rest of the media, and for wekks and in some cases much longer that this, circulated as being a true story, thwarted by vigilent watchers of Glenn Beck.

But were these sources independent of each other, or were they merely feeding off each other, each one using the past as "proof" that this story was real?  It seems the latter is sadly true. In a way it appears to be very similar to the old game we used to play at school, one person would start telling a story to another, who then in turn told another, and so forth., By the time the last person was told the story, it had changed, grown more dramtic, and was not even close to the first telling. These, it seems to me, are the "sources" Mr. Beck uses to back up his ideas.

Folks, this is not how news is supposed to work. This entire exercise is merely opinion posing as news, and in some quarters this rates solely as propaganda. In the movie "V" there is a host who talks smoothly and "reports" all sorts of ridiculous allegations and then uses his own credibility, personality and charm to make lies into truth. One has to wonder just what Glenn Beck is trying, really and behind the outward motives, to do here? Granted, I am one of those who tends not to believe most of what he says, so my opinion is biased. However, apart from my opinion, there are the realities of what journalism and television news are supposed to do in order to make sure the stories they report are based upon fact, not political or personal agendas, and especially upon rumors. Rumors, as we have heard often enough, can turn violent. Falsehoods can lead to tragedy, as we saw in the case of David Koresh creating fear and paranoia amongst his folowers which eventually lead to the showdown at Waco in which he and many of his followers died. In other words, rumors and false information, when believed and acted upon, can lead to dire circumstances, even to the death of others.

Why does he get away with it?

So, just how does Glenn Beck get away with this? I often wonder just why no one has taken him to court and sued him for the alleged libel and apparent outright lies told by him. Apparently. so do his followers, whi use this inaction as "proof" that Beck speaks the truth. But is lack of legal action actually proof that someone is telling the truth? I don't believe it is.

Honestly, I have no idea why he hasn't been sued by those he has defamed in word and by implication on his show. (I also have no idea why more people didn't sue the tabloids.) Perhaps he is just simply a very good charlatan, a real populist charmer, a boyish-looking kid-next-door or a very eager salesman who knows how to frame his words so that they always have the element of being merely opinion, and therefore not to be confused with fact. He does, after all, claim that he is not a journalist and his program is not your typical news program.

As for covering one's arse, I do this myself, to protect my arse when I write. For example, I say "alleged" or "in my opinion" to protect myself from being assaulted legally by anyone I write about. This is not a secret tactic and many people use it. So, for example, when Beck claims President Obama was putting the strong arm on Ben Nelson, he said more or less IF this is true then it is treasonous.

Just the same, I would bet a dollar to a dougnut that what most people took away from that long talk was that "This is treasonous!", and then associated Obama with an act of treason. These kinds of tactics were used by the North Koreans on our soldiers back in the 1950's to get them confused so they would believe, wholeheartedly, the most astounding lies. Some of those poor men came away actually believing that they had committed acts of brutality against the women and children of North Korea. In short, they were what was called at the time, brain-washed. They heard and came to believe many false ideas and were certain these falsehoods were indeed true. The story of Patty Hearst also shows the power of this kind of suggestive reasoning.

But one does not need to be a North Korean interrogator to understand that a lie told often enough becomes the truth in the minds of the masses. These kinds of tactics have been used right here, such as when Joseph McCarthy claimed that so many Americans were secretly Communists that we were all in danger of being taken over by some nebulous Red Wave. Of course, there had to be some small element of truth in such a sweeping statement, and some Americans were indeed Communists or sympathized with some ideas they had about what Communism was. In many cases these Americans had themselves been slowly subjected to brain washing, and in other cases they simply believed that Communism was better than what we had here. But that is not the main point.

What McCarthy did was take a simple fact, that a few Americans were indeed Communists, and blew it up into a huge monster which people believed to be true. After all, if it was true for a few, could it not be true for many? In other words, McCarthy sewed doubt into our minds and we took the next step in making this into a huge conspiracy of immense and immediately disastrous proportions. Never mind that the FBI already knew who this small group of Communists were, never mind that they represented very little threat to any of us, McCarthy made the issue a prime mover and of great importance simply by repeating it over and over, every time making bolder and more incredible claims, at one time actually having ripped pages out of a Wisconsin phone book and brandishing it as a "list of known Communists" we should all be afraid of.

No one bothered to check out the veracity of these claims; we all just assumed that McCarthy, as a Senator and leader in this anti-Communist struggle, was telling the truth when in fact he was just whipping up popular support that would assure him of both power in the Senate and re-election in Wisconsin. Some of the people who knew him well even said he had higher ambitions for the White House.

Again, sadly, Mr. Beck seems to be going one farther than old Tail Gunner Joe McCarthy in that he often does not even have a shread of actual evidence about the things he says. For example, when talking of his protest a few months back, he was claiming on FOX that 1.7 million people were in Washington, D. C. specifically for that march. While it may or may not be true, this was presented by Beck as a fact, as if some idependent agency had tallied the number of people there and had somehow come up with the number 1.7 million. If that were indeed fact, perhaps Washington D. C. officials must have had some clue that 1.7 million protesters did indeed arrive on that weekend and would have had to have extra police and ambulance personnel on the scene. Maybe they did, but Beck never mentioned this as proof or evidence for his claim. After all, 1.7 million people in Washington D. C. would have just about doubled the population of the city at that time. "According to census.gov, the 2008 ACS population estimate for the Washington DC is 591,833." (source: Wikipedia).  According to the group which keeps an eye on these things, the number of tourists in 2008 was roughly 16.6 million, which tallies to about 1.4 million per month. this number dipped slightly for most of 2009, but numbers have not yet been released. (Source: Washington D,C, Travel & Tourism Industry stats, 2006).  Certainly 1.7 million showing up on a Saturday would have aroused some attention of the local authorities.  To date, however, no such number has been verified.

Do the math.  Certainly there would have been some positive, noted economic benefit to 1.7 million people arriving in the capital on that weekend.  Again, the numbers do not reflect this. Perhaps the food vendors tallies would show great business during that time. Maybe these things could indeed be shown as factual, but Beck was on the air during the event and simply said that 1.7 million had shown up, and it was taken as fact.  And even today there is no actual source to show he was correct.  None.

Why do we believe this man?

We Americans are generally not stupid and we certainly are nobody's fool. Yet we give our trust so willingly to those we believe are on our side in some issue or another. But why should we trust Glenn Beck, or anyone else for that matter, Right or Left, so blindly?  Well, part of the problem, as I see it, is that we have come to think of the Internet as a source of facts and knowledge.  It is not.  The Right has lambasted Wikipedia as a source of false information, yet many readily believe the multitude of bloggers spewing out equally unsupported information.  The Internet is, however, the realm of opinion, and as everyone knows, opinions are neither fact nor always true. Those who believe the Earth is flat are amusing, their web sites colorful and interesting to read, but do they speak the truth?  I seriously doubt it.  Do we blindly, willingly take their word for it, though, because they have a web site and claim to be speaking the truth, or do we research a bit more seriously into the matter?  Unfortunately, some people do not and come to believe in fantastic but false ideas. That also is very sad.  In this rough, rough old world we live in, believing in lies can get us into real trouble.  Just look to our adventure in Iraq.  We believed the lies, and the lies eventually were shown to be just that; lies.  How many soldiers have died fighting for a lie?  How many more will die because of that lie?

Among many on the political Right certain celebrities have often been criticized for giving opinions about things political, and there is even a contingent of Conservatives who mock the "egghead" "elite" "intellectuals" who hold some office or cabinet post or czar position. The people who mock them are, of course, pointing out the differences between us and them, the common folk and the bright boys who hold some advanced degree, basically saying that if one is an "elite" then he or she has no idea how to live as a common person. And then the same people, many of them, hold up Glenn Beck as some sort of ideal common person. Well, he is acting a lot like one of those bright boys his fans seem to mock, and he certainly is not living like a common folk because he is wealthier than most of us will ever be. And as far as his show goes, it is his moneymaker, his bread winner, and he depends upon the ratings to drive up his popularity, and his popularity to drive up his income. There is nothing wrong with this.  All TV shows want ratings and all characters on the shows want high incomes. That is life in the entertainment field.

The problem for me is that Glenn Beck actually fits the definition of an entertainer, and therefore would and should be included in that list of "Hollywood elites" people on the Right so willingly scourge. He is wealthy, he offers his opinions on political matters, and he has his own forum for entertaining us. And believe me, I am entertained by him every time I watch his show. However, as with a sit com, I know the difference between entertainment and reality.  Beck is a master at clouding the difference, and he has a totally free-style forum, with no dissent, to say what he wants, decalre what he wants and cause all the commotion he desires with his loyal audience.

So why pick on Glenn Beck?

Actually, my original intention here was not to "pick on" anyone, not even Glenn Beck. He is a first class entertainer, with all his dramtics and emotions. I really do enjoy watching him perform,. But I know when I watch him that it is merely a performance. I rarely take anything he says very seriously. And when he claims this or that is happening, I start to make notes and check out the veracity of what he says. Like most performers, be they Liberal, Conservative or otherwise, I take much of what he says with a grain of proverbial salt until I can check out his sources, their credibility, and then make cross-checks with other sources.

So, that said, my original intent was to examine the facts behind Glenn Beck, and now I will say that he is not the only one out there with dubious credentials. Look around at any cable news channel. especially FOX and MSNBC, and you'll see that some of the hosts are very political, very biased either Right or Left, and that in order to take seriously what they say, one needs to do a bit of background check on their stories, and then apply what I call the "bias factor" to their reporting. Many people claim that the "media" is Liberal-biased, but looking at folks like Limbaugh, Hannity, Coulter, O'Reilly and all so many others, that seems to me to be a bit of a bad joke. The media is biased on both sides of this Liberal-Conservative divide.

Believe whomsoever you want to, but be ready to have to defend your beliefs against facts that may not agree in any great detail with your beliefs. And remember, with entertainers taking the roles meant for serious journalists, what you get may garbage in and garbage out. That's just how it is these days.

Cheers!

So very true Jeff, I watched Glenn Beck for the first time a few days ago and to me it was more entertainment than anything else. He like blowhard Limbaugh and his buddies get the oscar for pure entertainment although sad to say most people grab the popular rhetoric ball and run with it causing untold dissention and distraction. Great Hub.

I usually find that the truth is somewhere in between. Both sides have extremes and it is best not to be blinded completely but it is all about what your core beliefs are and then you are going to lean towards that core belief no matter what. Only way to change that is to have the truth slap you in the face, then maybe we learn.

ColdWarBaby 2 years ago

However entertaining Beck may be for some, when lies are taken as truth, the results can be and often are tragic.

Given that the primary purpose of virtually all modern media is profit, it is impossible to rely on any of it for factuality and accuracy. The huge multi-national corporations that own the information have a vested interest in the status quo. They manipulate, obfuscate and outright lie without reservation to maintain it.

One of the few outlets I have found that I feel even remotely comfortable with is Link TV. http://www.linktv.org/ Check it out and donate if you can.

It is so bloody sad to have guys like Glenn Beck feeding his nonsense to millions of people on TV ... and there are many others like him as well. I was in a book store the other day and saw at least two books with his face on it ... who buys that garbage? Just horrible ... a nightmare.

Glenn Beck is a fool. I do not suffer the counsel of fools.

I had a fellow Hubber, when I questioned his logic on a particular issue, assure me that Glenn Beck would allow my feeble mind to break free and understand. His point was that the President and George Soros were "socialists."

President Obama is a multi-millionaire, Mr Soros is a multi-BILLIONAIRE. Both men achieved this status in a Capitalist system and are therefore, *de facto* Capitalist of the highest order. Soros in particular, has been convicted, not merely accused of SEC violations...the Hallmark of the A-hole American Capitalist.

My favorite Beckism is: in order for Obama to achieve his "socialist agenda," Obama must be assassinated!

While I would agree that if this was the case it would show some SERIOUS commitment in regards to the President's supposed ideology...It really is the dumbest thing I have EVER heard.

Insofar as to why Beck has yet to be sued: He can easily claim the "Larry Flint defense" as no reasonable person would ever consider what Glenn Beck says is believable. This means, sadly and obviously, that his "kool-aid drinking fanbase" are NOT reasonable people...DUH!

People have always believed rumors and conspiracy theories. But having someone on TV spouting off garbage every night is not healthy for democracy. All these Glenn Beck watchers believe that Obama was born in Kenya, is a Muslim, is a socialist, is a Nazi, hates white culture, wants to let terrorists into the country, wants to kill your grandma... It's ridiculous.

Oh yeah - and as to how Glenn Beck sells so many of his books? It's called marketing. He can market his books on his own show. The publishers pay for it and distribute it because it's a surefire profit source. The bookstores carry it for the same reason. So - people see the books everywhere (bookstores, the grocery store, Wal Mart) and they see him every where - and so they buy the book.

Media consolidation is a wonderful thing folks.

Well, the major thing about Beck is that he has a totally free reign to say and do what he wants. His guests are usually only those who support his wacky theories and conspiracy ideas. He seldom gets into a debate with anintelligent person who would deny his view.

He was a little more subdued when he was on CNN/HN because they more or less had some control over him via the contract. However, FOX just lets him go and damn the consequences.

I still run into many people who say that FOX News is not poitical and just reports "the facts". Well, on occasion they do present some newsworthy information, mostly favoring the Conservative positions, which you would not hear or see on either CNN or MSNBC, just as programs such as Olbermann, Hardball, Rachel Maddow and the Ed Show present newsworthy stories favoring the Liberal side of life that you would not see elsewhere, i.e. Maddow's reporting on the "C" Street group and their various ideas and actions. I doubt I would ever see any critical analysis of this group on either FOX or CNN unless some serious scandal was involved.

But as for straight forward news, it is, sadly, a rare thing these days. I used to love the BBC for unemotional coverage, but even they are slanted toward the British interests when they cover a lot of news. Still, that, Canadian Broadcasting Co. and PBS and NPR seem to give me a lot of straight news as news, and declare when they giving me opinion.

It is a sad situtation that in the U.S. we are given so much opinion that passes as news and fact. FOX does that par excellence (Pardon my poor French!) and MSNBC also has a political point of view. This is not new, however, and when one reads the history of politics in the U.S. these verbal snipes against opponents were commonplace even during our fight for independence. Comments written under pseudonyms were also quite common in newspapers. Lincoln did some of this when he was a lawyer in Springfield. Others did it as well.

I agree with CWB that most of the news we get is driven by money, as I mentioned above, and Beck is a master at making ratings. The more people hate him, the more his fans become intrenched and support him. His books sell because he promotes them on air and a lot of controversy drives up book sales. His covers are hilarious, though, especially the "Commissar" picture I saw as I leafed through one of his scribblings. Just like the former GOP woman VP candidate who shall remain unnamed in this comment, the more controversy, the better the fans support her.

I was surprised to see that her alleged book was a top best seller, but then learned that part of that reason was because well-moneyed Conservative groups had bought up huge numbers to distribute to their base. Even though I have not read it, and probably won't, I am curious about reports of so many factual errors that I have to wonder, as I asked in my hub, why do we believe only those who side with us, and eschew those who hold other opinions? I always thought that learning involved looking at all sides of an issue before coming to a conclusion, but I guess that's just the teacher in me!

Cheers!

My favorite news source is the Diane Rehm show. It's a two hour long program on NPR. She usually selects a single topic for the first hour and then brings in guests from all sides of the issue. Since they have a whole hour to talk, everyone gets to present their positions. After listening to her show I always feel like I understand the opposite position, sometimes I even agree with it a little.

Unfortunately, most news is not done that way, even on NPR or the BBC. But public news services are usually better than the networks, for sure.

I never watch Glenn Beck or listen to Limbaugh, but I know other Progressives who do. I guess it's like "loving to hate J.R." from the old TV show Dallas. But I think Progressives should be aware that you are driving up his ratings and perpetuating his rantings by watching. I do hear about his antics on a regular basis, mostly from watching Keith Olbermann. I like Olbermann, for the most part, and I love the free health clinic campaign he's organized. But I wish he wouldn't dignify Beck & Limbaugh with so much of his airtime. It seems to me the only progressives that need to pay a lot of attention to such media clowns are the Obama administration, because we've seen what damage these unfounded attacks can do if not addressed swiftly and efficiently. Personally, I don't find these clowns entertaining anyway.

Hey Jeff, great hub. I gave up broadcast T.V. over six years ago so my introduction to Glenn beck is very recent and only from clips gleaned from the internet. Here is why he is on the air: The AVERAGE I. Q. for humans is 100. Many never even reach THAT number. Those of low intelligence will hang on his every word like a side show barker's rant. THEY are his followers. It's easier to hate someone or something that you don't understand versus opening up one's mind to diversity and uniqueness. Glenn Beck is the champion of morons and idiots while the rest of us look on and laugh. I believe that is why this loud mouth is not challenged in court or the court of opinion. He is unveiled daily for his lies and propaganda. He will never go away because truth, acceptance, compassion will always need something to balance it out. Good versus evil. Peace.

Now, now. CWB, Chef, leave RIGHTeous Dude alone. He must have been talking to Mr Happy...The Canadian. (Sorry Mr Happy, but you have only earned the right to be a North American--no offense). I know he wasn't talking to any of the teachers, civil servants, or military veterans--you know, the type of people who actually serve their country--who make up about half of the respondents.

If not then he must be using sarcasm in line with the title "Garbage in, RIGHTeous Dude out"...I mean "garbage out."

This must also be why such a great American mind like the Dude, would incorrectly (and disrespectfully) use "american" when spelling his beloved country, when he obviously knows the rules of Capitalization regarding proper nouns.

Or maybe he loves Glenn and Sarah more than his own country...which actually makes sense, since Glenn and Sarah obviously do.

I believe most trolls come from under a bridge, perhaps a bridge that was built with Socilaist money that came from taxes. Maybe even a bridge that was ignored for a long time by upright Capitalist leaders who saw no profit to be made from maintaining the bridge. Maybe the bridge actualy needs some fresh money to repair or rebuild it. Maybe it's a bridge to nowhere that no one ever supported even after they did support it. Maybe that lack of support is why it is falling down - literally. Maybe there's even a FEMA death camp close by.

But since all taxes are always evil and a Communist plot against Capitalists, maybe we should just let the bridge fall down and act all self-righteous & patriotic about it, like RIGHTeous Dude does about his heroes. After all, there is no Constitutional right to have a bridge, therefore the Founding Fathers must have been anti-bridge. Otherwise they would have included it in the language of the Constitution.

I'm sure Glenn Beck can get all weepy and tell us all about this Socialist, racist Obama is trying to force bridges upon us and how we need to resist these Fascist, Communist, Socialist, anti-White culture government takeovers of our rights to live our lives bridge-free. "This isn't the bridge-free America I grew up in!" he might even say. "And we are getting together a huge 300,000,000 people million protest on Bridge Day to make sure no more bridges are forced upon an innocent public!" And then he'll claim that actually 500,000,000 Americans showed up, even though there are not that many Americans alive right now.

And his fans will believe that 500,000,000 million Americans actually showed up and were so peaceful that Washington D.C. did not need extra cops on the beat, extra ambulance drivers on hand, or that nobody ate during the rally, so local restaurants showed no uptick in income during that weekend.

That is about as close as I can get to understanding such a mentality. I guess I just can't identify with people who have rusty nails for brains. Sorry, there RIGHTeous Dude, but I find it hard to think like an oxidized (that means rusty, my friend) nail, with my head getting pounded by hammer blows of crappy propaganda all day long.

Think for yourself, RIGHTeous DUDE.

And Happy New Year to one and all!

Egads Chef, cease fire, lol. I think Righteous Dude is done. I'm just kidding, keep kicking him, it's certainly fun and it's obvious that he can't fight back (though he started it).

Here's a fun line thought free from any serious intellectual basis:

The Right is fond of bring up the Founding Fathers (even though they cannot define who those people actually were...it's actually a very complicated issue that I am developing into a Hub), who used flintlocks in the prosecution of an insurgency. Flash forward a couple hundred years. Trolls fire one volley from under the bridge and that's generally it. Are they still using flintlocks (the mental equivalent)? Talk about outdated technology (thoughts). Against RD's lone shot we have issued a heady storm of return fire to the point that he doesn't want to play any more. I guess it's hard to defend against machinegun intellects when your sole tactic is to make a loud *noise* and wait to be gunned down by the "drive-by media" instead of fighting back. He didn't even really aim (make a point), he just kinda fired into the trees with Commies... UnAmerican...etc) Maybe he should have saved a round for himself?

In the UK there is a law which obliges broadcasters to be 'fair, decent and honest' in whatever they produce. It sounds quaint but it means you can trust TV and Radio news. If a broadcaster is offering an opinion he has to signal that it is an opinion. It also means that entertainers stay in the entertainment zone.

I don't think free speech suffers- journalists can say what they like as long as they can back it with facts. It makes life a lot more bearable. I can't cope with the miasmas of US media- outside the reputable newspapers at any rate.

On the other hand, UK libel laws are too often used to stifle whistle blowers and legitimate protest in a way that wouldn't be possible in the US.

Freedom of speech- shame it wasn't linked to integrity in some way.

Thanks all for the great comments, mis amigos. I get these occasional comments from people who are not hubbers, just like RIGHTeous Dude, or at least they do not have any hubpage reference listed. I think they just peruse the Internet and comment of various blogs, etc. I really don't mind. Everyone is entitled to their opinion although I have been told on very good authority that once Obama puts into place his Communist, Fascist, Socialist agenda we will no longer be allowed to have our own opinions. The song "Just Another Brick in the Wall" will become the National Anthem and we will be forced to march with blank looks on our faces in slow processions to work, school, etc.

But that's for another hub, another day. And as for agendas, I doubt Obama is any kind of Commie, Socialist or Fascist. He's much too cautious for any of those labels. I really do see him as not very Liberal now that he's the POTUS. He's not quite Conservative, either, but I guess viewing him from either extreme edge may give a different perspective. No Left enough for the Left and not Right enough for the Right.

It's kind of like lying beneath a pine tree and looking up the outer edge of the boughs at the stars. Very eerie but interesting view from that angle.

I don't watch Beck, nor listen to Hannity, et al.--I used to try in the name of some kind of misplaced idea of "fairness"--but I found them exercising no fairness to callers who challenged them in any way, and concluded I owed them nothing. Like pounding one's head against a wall, it felt much better when I stopped.

But the bigger point is "practical epistemology"--how are we supposed to know what is true or not, when so many in media have abdicated any responsibility for the truthfulness of their words? It's true that individuals can and should take more responsibility for vetting their own information, and true that the Net offers a lot of opportunity for cross-checking facts. But I wonder if we shouldn't as a society have some sort of mechanism to encourage truthfulness, or, conversely, discourage lying.

Should that be an aspect of tort reform? Usually, that is taken to mean "making it harder to sue." But maybe it should be easier to sue for public lies? Distortion of reality is surely a serious harm, albeit one for which it's hard to assign a dollar value!

Hi Chef Jeff, thanks for lending the voice of reason to Glenn Heck's static. I think Glenn Beck is one of the most unreasonable voices "out there." He distorts truth so often I think he no longer recognizes it. I keep thinking no real thinking person will accept his craziness which gets worse with every broadcast. I wish that blackboard of his would melt.

The problem with liars is that if they yell it often and at high volume, it becomes accepted. It's just human nature to not hear, what we hear all the time.

It's sad, but we must speak out against it; boycotting the sponsors is a powerful tool.

Always enjoy your prospective, =)

Chef Jeff,

you are really brave to to able to even consider watching beck that much to do your research!

I would have gotten a huge migrane and stomach ache.

just reading an article on Mitt Romneys life was enough to bring the head aches out. I guess I can get used to it!
